ACTION ALERT: Public Lands Sell-Off Vote
Voice Your Opposition to Public Lands Disposal: Sell-Off Vote Scheduled for Wednesday
The threat to our public lands just got more real - and more urgent.
Last night, the House Budget Committee advanced the budget reconciliation package with over 500,000 acres of public land sell-off provisions still intact. Now, leadership has scheduled the next vote - in the Rules Committee - for 1:00 AM on Wednesday, May 21. Yes, 1:00 in the morning. It’s a clear attempt to avoid public scrutiny and rush this through under cover of darkness.
While the lands at immediate risk are in Utah and Nevada, this move sets a dangerous precedent, one that could open the door for similar sell-offs here in Idaho. If Congress can dispose of hundreds of thousands of acres through reconciliation now, there’s nothing stopping them from doing it again. We cannot let that happen.
Tell your Representatives: Reconciliation is not the place to sell off public lands.
The budget reconciliation process is meant for fiscal decisions, not for reshaping America’s landscape. Selling off public lands this way bypasses public input and the funds from a sale of this type would go straight back to the general US Treasury to pay for government programs - not back into public lands management.
We need your voice TODAY. The sell-off language must be removed before the Wednesday vote. Contact your elected representatives today and ask them to keep public lands disposal out of budget reconciliation.
