Founded by sportsmen and women 1936, the Idaho Wildlife Federation (IWF) is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to protecting, conserving, and enhancing Idaho’s natural resources, wildlife, habitat, and sporting heritage for future and current generations.

With the hiring of this position, the Idaho Wildlife Federation is transitioning to a three-person staff to facilitate our rapid growth, address conservation issues prescient to Idaho’s wildlife and sportsman heritage, and to support our network of affiliated organizations, the largest coalition of sporting conservation groups in the state of Idaho. As such, we are seeking a knowledgeable candidate with experienced understanding of the complexity of social, ecologic, and economic values woven into natural resource management. The position will require a broad application of skills and tasks to continue IWF’s growth, necessitating flexible work prioritization with diverse tasks. Essential Functions

The Conservation Program Coordinator will grow the reach and influence of the Federation’s wildlife and habitat conservation efforts, and sportsman advocacy. The position will develop new and existing conservation programs and campaigns utilizing government processes, grassroots organizing, and employing volunteer projects. The coordinator will assist in the overall operations and programs of our organization as needed, and improve IWF’s visibility around the state with decision makers and partners.

Job responsibilities include understanding the core functions of legislative and policy research, grassroots and community organizing, public lands management and processes, and private landowner relationship building. This full-time position requires awareness of current political and scientific issues and IWF’s public policy objectives and strategies in order to serve as a resource for IWF members, key stakeholders, and the public at large.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Comms and Outreach Coordinator in the scheduling, planning, and publicizing of events and meetings to promote IWF’s objectives.

  • Coordinate development of grassroots coalitions as needed.

  • With the IWF staff, coordinate grassroots campaign for salmon/steelhead recovery.

  • Attend meetings and hearings around Idaho as needed to provide IWF’s presence and position.

  • Fill positions on official and unofficial public lands collaborative coalitions.

  • Conduct research as directed to analyze current issues and support IWF’s advocacy campaigns.

  • Monitor legislation and policy initiatives, and assist in developing and implementing IWF’s advocacy strategies.

  • Identify ways to increase member involvement in IWF’s public policy goals.

  • Participate in regular meetings with the executive director for conservation strategies and projects.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to hunting, angling, and outdoor lifestyle.

  • Enthusiasm and professionalism to represent IWF and its members, a passion to conserve and enhance Idaho’s wildlife and natural resources, and to advocate for creative and proactive solutions to solve natural resource issues.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, research, and administrative skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including persuasive writing and proofing. Ability to respond in a professional, knowledgeable, and friendly manner.

  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft programs, familiarity with or willingness to learn WordPress and advocacy software.

  • Applicant must be reliable, pro-active, work independently, and set priorities and handle multiple tasks with strong attention to detail, able to work with diverse personalities.

  • Prior experience with grassroots organizing.

  • Ability to travel from time to time across Idaho to plan and attend events.

  • Flexibility to work longer hours during the legislative session and take on additional responsibilities and special projects as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or other training/certification in natural resources, public policy, or related field preferred.

  • Prior experience in nonprofit advocacy.

  • Prior professional experience in natural resources and public policy.

  • Have, or be willing to acquire and develop working knowledge of Idaho legislative rules, conduct, policies, procedures, and basic understanding of the legislative process and procedures.

The Conservation Program Coordinator will help facilitate IWF’s continued success and take a pro-active role in day-to-day operations of IWF.
