Winter 2026
German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Idaho (GSPCI)
German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Idaho (GSPCI) brings together dog owners and enthusiasts across Idaho and eastern Oregon to share skills, support one another, and celebrate upland sporting traditions. Through events, training opportunities, and field trials, the club fosters both canine excellence and lasting friendships.
This year, GSPCI is hosting their annual Sportsman Dinner on February 26, featuring games, raffles, silent and live auctions, and a BBQ dinner catered by Grubbin’ BBQ. Attendees can win prizes from top outdoor brands plus local businesses. Don’t miss your chance to bring your longest pheasant tail feather for a special prize and enjoy GSPCI etched beer and wine glasses for endless drinks throughout the evening.
Idaho Wild Sheep Foundation
Salmon River and Owyhee Updates
Bill London, Co-Chair Conservation Committee
Through spring and summer of 2025, the Idaho Wild Sheep Foundation has continued to fund IDFG Wildlife Technician salaries to conduct lamb production and survivorship surveys in both the Salmon River and Owyhee herds. In the spring lambing season, collared ewes are located to see if they have a new lamb. With hundreds of collared ewes living in rugged and often remote country, this is not always easy. Also, ewes with very young lambs, one to four days old, are solitary and tend to hide in cliffs. Then they return to the ewe:lamb groups - those groups are very vigilant and will spook easily. Ewes that were just captured the previous winter have known pregnancy status. Obviously, pregnant ewes are prioritized. As for the ewes from prior captures, it’s unknown if they are pregnant or not.
If a lamb survives its first four months of life, it has a good chance of making it to adulthood. To track this, the Wildlife Techs go back out in the early fall to see how many of the lambs seen in the spring are still alive at four months of age. Watch the ultrasound video here.

Idaho Falconers Association
Annual Fall Meet
From October 24–26, 2025, the Idaho Falconers Association (IFA) gathered once again in Arco, Idaho for their annual Fall Field Meet, returning to the wide‑open landscapes of the Big Desert. This location has long been a favorite among members, and this year’s meet brought together nearly 50 falconers from Idaho and surrounding states.
The Foundation for Wildlife Management
The Foundation for Wildlife Management (F4WN) is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a healthy balance between predator and prey populations. Their core mission is to promote ungulate population recovery in areas negatively impacted by wolves and to assist State Game Management Agencies with their wolf management objectives.
Their upcoming fundraising banquet season is an important (and fun!) source of funding for the success of their reimbursement program. This year, they are hosting 10 banquets across Idaho and Montana, and every ticket sold directly contributes to reimburse those hunters and trappers putting boots on the ground to manage predator populations. This is more than just a dinner; it's an opportunity to gather with fellow sportsmen and conservationists, participate in exciting raffles and auctions, and directly support the recovery of our prized big game herds. For more information on the closest banquet to you, check out their events page here.
