ACTION ALERT: Voice Your Opposition to Public Lands Disposal

Voice Your Opposition to Public Lands Disposal in the Budget Reconciliation Package

Late in the evening on May 6, the House Natural Resources Committee voted to include an amendment into the budget reconciliation package that would sell or exchange an estimated 450,000 acres of public lands. While the lands designated are in Utah and Nevada, these are still our lands and disposing of them in this manner sets a dangerous precedent that could be used to further dispose of additional public lands in the future.

The budget reconciliation process is not the place to push public lands disposal. The funds from a sale of this type would go straight back to the general US Treasury to pay for government programs – not back into public lands management.

There is an existing process through Congress where public lands disposal can occur where appropriate, and there are some limited cases where this may make sense. But budget reconciliation, which lacks the usual public process, is not where this should happen.

Contact your elected representatives today and ask them to keep public lands disposal out of budget reconciliation.

Take Action Today

“As an Idaho outdoorsman, I urge you to oppose the inclusion of public lands disposal in the budget reconciliation package. Public lands are an essential part of our way of life in the West, and these national treasures should not be disposed of without full debate and consideration. Any public lands disposal should be limited to discrete, specific cases and go through the standard Congressional processes with full public input, with resulting funds returning to public lands management. Disposing of public lands through reconciliation would result in those funds being sent to the general Treasury and not benefit additional public lands access or management.”

Our public lands are part of who we are. Please urge your Representative to vote NO on including disposal through budget reconciliation.
