Breathing New Life into the Idaho Wildlife Federation

When you’re a nonprofit with an office of four people doing advocacy work in the outdoors, it’s hard to maintain a brand identity, let alone establish one. Since it was founded, the Idaho Wildlife Federation has leaned on grassroots efforts and donations to keep marketing efforts (and later, it’s website) afloat. And even without a marketing budget, we’re still amazed at the amount of engagement from the public over the years, all helping the IWF continue to grow into a movement that resonates with all Idahoans.

The struggle for IWF today, like many local non-profits, is advocating for ourselves & advertising our message while we continue to do the work. So, when we heard about Drake Cooper Advertising and their pro-bono Dream Big program, we knew this was something we had to go after. We beat out some stiff competition (seriously, there are so many wonderful nonprofits in Idaho) and managed to land an entire year of donated marketing help, including a fresh brand identity aligning with our values, and a brand new website that effectively extends our message to the public.

Starting with our initial kick-off, we were able to outline some of the key brand elements we felt that represented IWF, and from there we worked toward outlining which factors would need to be brought forward in our new mark. The Idaho Wildlife Federation advocates for so many features of Idaho’s outdoors, we took our time weighing the importance of the land, water, and wildlife that we felt needed to be represented. After some initial discussion and sketches, Drake Cooper drafted a new logo that represents not only our love for Idaho but also pays homage to the classic badge or seal, indicative of so many outdoor initiatives we believe in.

Through the process of defining more of our branding look, we were also able to hone more of our messaging, defining our core values from when we were founded, to incorporating some fresh verbiage around our more recent advocacy work and boots on the ground efforts.

Once we established a new logo and solidified our message, we were able to dive headfirst into a website design that brought all of these elements together in one cohesive look and feel. We couldn’t be happier with the result. Our site feels clean and informative, has clear calls to action for anyone who is looking to get involved, and can be easily updated with the latest news happening in our state.

We hope you take the time to browse our new site, follow us on social media, and soon, we’ll have updated swag you can purchase to further spread the word. Cheers to our new look and thank you Drake Cooper for a great year!
