Job Title: Communications and Outreach Coordinator

Reports to: Executive Director

Compensation: $39,000 - $46,000 (negotiable) plus competitive health benefits, retirement savings, and vacation leave

Classification: Full-time, Exempt

Location: Boise, ID, but considerations may be made for exceptional candidates.

Founded by sportsmen and women 1936, the Idaho Wildlife Federation (IWF) is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to protecting, conserving, and enhancing Idaho’s natural resources, wildlife, habitat, and sporting heritage for future and current generations.

The Idaho Wildlife Federation is currently a five-person organization representing the largest coalition of sporting conservation groups in the state of Idaho. As such, we are seeking a knowledgeable candidate to implement our communications plans and strategies across multiple platforms and organizing programmatic events. The position will require a broad application of skills and tasks to continue IWF's growth, necessitating flexible work prioritization with diverse tasks. Essential Functions

The Communications and Outreach Coordinator will collaborate with the Executive Director and IWF staff to coordinate and distribute public facing communications: social media, press releases, direct mail and email, IWF blog posts, etc. This position will involve the identification, recruitment, and retention of individual and corporate donors, organizing in-person and online fundraising events, searching for grants, and assisting staff with grant writing and reporting.

Job responsibilities include the core functions of communications, outreach, and recordkeeping. This full-time position requires awareness of current political and scientific issues and IWF’s public policy objectives and strategies in order to serve as a resource for IWF members, key stakeholders, and the public at large.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day support to IWF’s staff, including, but not limited to: monitoring messages and mail, returning phone calls and other communications, editing and drafting content for blogs, Op-eds/Letters to the Editor, targeted communications, and social media content.

  • Assist in the scheduling, planning, and publicizing of events and meetings to promote IWF’s programmatic objectives.

  • Coordinate development and production of outreach materials.

  • Attend meetings and hearings around Idaho as needed to provide IWF’s presence and position.

  • Continue to grow IWF’s media presence through research and drafting press releases.

  • Conduct research as directed to analyze current issues and support IWF’s advocacy campaigns.

  • Assist with tracking, compiling, and managing IWF’s membership database.

  • Maintain a working database of other clubs and organizations with similarly aligned interests to IWF, and develop and maintain relationships with sportsmen/wildlife groups, IWF affiliate leaders, government officials and representatives, relevant regional wildlife and land management agency staff.

  • Monitor legislation and policy initiatives, and assist in developing and implementing IWF’s advocacy and comms strategies.

  • Identify ways to increase membership numbers and member involvement in IWF’s public policy goals.

  • Participate in regular meetings with IWF staff for updates on communication strategies and projects.

Qualifications:

Good candidates for this position will have the following skills and abilities, as a result of their employment history, personal experiences and/or educational attainment:

  • Commitment and passion for hunting, angling, and outdoor lifestyle.

  • Enthusiasm and professionalism to represent IWF and its members, a passion to conserve and enhance Idaho’s wildlife and natural resources, and to advocate for creative and proactive solutions to solve natural resource issues.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, research, and administrative skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including persuasive writing and proofing. Ability to respond in a professional, knowledgeable, and friendly manner.

  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft programs.

  • Applicant must be reliable, pro-active, work independently, and set priorities and handle multiple tasks with strong attention to detail, able to work with diverse personalities.

  • Ability to create and cultivate strong, genuine relationships with individuals and stakeholders.

  • Ability to travel from time to time across Idaho to plan and attend events.

  • Flexibility to work longer hours and take on additional responsibilities and special projects as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or other training/certification in natural resources, public policy, communications, nonprofit/business management, or related field preferred.

  • Prior experience in nonprofit advocacy.

  • Familiarity and experience with CRM databases, specifically EveryAction.

The Communications and Outreach Coordinator will help facilitate IWF’s continued success and take a proactive role in day-to-day operations of IWF.
